As he has a special interest in Dr. Hols t, Stein metz subs equently invit es Holst to his l arge mansion , whic h is ful l of expen sive pa intings and s culptures, and proves to him that he can i n fact mat erialise objects. Steinmetz ’s abiliti es are evolving by leaps and bounds, and i s progress ing from being abl e to creat e objects only to bei ng able to cre ate living t hings. His ultimate ambition is t o be able to create a hum an being. He tell s Dr. Ho lst that if h e will only perform a certain br ain operat ion on him, S teinmetz will become able to a ttain his goa l. He’s got a ll the necessary equ ipment set up in his basement . Dr. Holst, however, is too spoo ked by t he whol e thing to ag ree to this mad sc heme, a nd refuses. Steinmet z then sets a bout manipulati ng Holst’s life, to pre ssure him i nto per forming the o peration. By t hen Steinmet z has bec ome abl e to create a temporary hum an bein g, and in the hope that he can perhaps m ake his own creati on perfo rm the op eration, he manifest s a doppelgan ger of Dr . Holst. T his double pr oceeds to ta ke over Dr. Ho lst’s life, creating chaos for him pro fession ally and person ally. And then Dr. Holst start s fighting b ack.
