This is pa rt of a larger plan to change more women into men and have a stron ger work -force/ar my, etc. It&am p;#39;s a very in-dep th char acter study of the main cha racter, who tries to fit into a worl d that she (now &# 39;he') doesn& amp;#39;t really un derstand, especial ly since she&a mp;#39;s n ow a man ... Stalin dislikes the results of the ex periments a nd has the s cientist k illed. The main charac ter then goes off to liv e a life as a simple, unknown ever yday Soviet, but is i nexplic ably drawn into larger and larger scheme s (somewhat reminiscen t of " Forrest Gump&qu ot; in that way). (s)He has r un-ins with differen t important ch aracters, in cluding h is ex-bo yfriend from his day s of be ing a woman, as well as going o n a dement ed quest for the nurs e with whom he possib ly fell in lov e after t he operati on...
