Unlike &quo t;The Trip& amp;quot; and &a mp;quot;P sych-Out&a mp;quot; (two o ther AIP fil ms), its no t an accurate r epresentation o f the mov ement at all. However i t does work as soc ial satire. T he direction by Barry Shea r is good a nd makes innov ative use of split screen phot ography. Plus, he kee ps everything m oving at a qu ick pace. In its f unny moments, the film work s well. In its attempts a t drama, its hel plessly date d and just as f unny as the hum orous mom ents. Christ opher Jones underplays his role and Shelly Winters overacts. H al Holbro ok offer s the best perf ormance and Diane Var si achie ves the r ight note of &a mp;quot;groo viness&qu ot;. The script by Rober t Thom h as its moment s, espec ially the end ing (easily the most ingen ious pa rt of the film ). "Wi ld in the Streets&q uot; isn& #39;t p erfect, but dese rves recogni tion as an in teresting mis understanding of the h allucina tion gener ation.
